If you are a fan of over-the-top, satirical horror, this is very likely a film for you, whether you have seen the first film (2019) or not. I venture to say this sequel is one that can be enjoyed without seeing the first film, as there is an introductory recap at the beginning of the sequel. If you have seen the first film, I have read and heard from others I spoke to after the screening at SXSW Film & Television Festival that they found the film enjoyable. I plan to see the 2019 film at some point, but the sequel at SXSW I found to be entertaining, especially with scenes that made me laugh out loud unexpectedly. If I say more, it may become a spoiler for readers.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is an entertaining film. It does not hold back on bloody scenes, starting almost from the beginning but certainly after Grace (Samara Weaving) learns that what she survived during the first film is followed up by another challenge with many more characters than she can imagine. The characters are wealthy and part of a global network with a plenty of influence who relish playing a “game” that is quite deadly. Grace’s estranged younger sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton), comes to visit her at the hospital (as seen at the beginning of the film) and finds herself immersed in Grace’s world without being asked. The audience sees how this family dynamic is woven through the story.

Samara Weaving’s performance allows the audience to see her exhibit a wide range of emotions as she confronts the situation she and her sister are in. She is most resilient in the face of fending off those who want to do harm to her and Faith. Even when in a panic, she is resourceful which brings about some very dark humor that the audience responds to. Newton is great as a younger sibling and despite learning about where Grace’s journey has taken her since she left home, she is determined to establish a sisterly bond again.

Supporting actors include Sarah Michelle Gellar, Shawn Hatosy, Elijah Wood excel in their performances as well. Nestor Carbonell (as Ignacio El Caido), Maia Jae (as Francesca El Caido) and Juan Pablo Romero (as Felipe El Caido) star as one of the wealthy families participating in the deadly game and find it is not as easy as they had anticipated. Gellar, Wood and the latter three I mentioned added some menacing, yet memorable scenes.

If you like satire, the film contains some about the ultra-wealthy and corrupt elites.

The film screened at the 2026 SXSW Film and Television Festival.

The film opens in theaters on March 20, 2026.
