When the SXSW Film and Television Festival announcements were made for 2026, I absolutely knew there were two films at the top of my list. On March X, it was Los Lobos Native Sons and on the final day of the festival, March 18th, was A Cowboy in London by filmmaker Jared Christopher who directed, is the cinematographer and producer. Serving on the crew with additional camera work is Taylor Day Grace-Crockett. Charley Crockett is a Grammy winning artist in 2026 (Best Regional Roots Music Album – Vocals) and twice nominated for a Grammy, this year (2026) for Best Traditional Country Album and Best Americana Album (2025). He has won twice at the Austin Music Awards, both in 2022 in the Musician of the Year and Best Country categories.

This was the Texas Premiere of A Cowboy in London, a documentary feature presented in the Screening Section, 24 Beats Per Second. I enjoyed viewing how the filmmaker captures not only portions of the multiple concerts and Taylor Day Grace-Crockett captures the more personal side of being on tour, backstage footage, and so much more. I am happy to see how many fans Charley Crockett has in London, as well as his interaction with them.   This is not his first film, and the following films are listed on Wikipedia in his Filmography: The Road To Music City USA (Documentary, 2021), (Live from the Ryman (2023, Concert film). Broke (First film role, Snowplow Driver, 2025) and $10 Cowboy (2025, Documentary surrounding the release of his 2024 album “$10 Cowboy”). This latter film premiered at the Austin Film Festival on October 24th, 2025, and one I also truly enjoyed.

About: Filmmaker Jared Christopher captures a rare portrait of Charley Crockett on the verge of global stardom. Shot in the verite tradition, the film follows Crockett during a whirlwind week in London: 3 sold-out solo shows at historic Hoxton Hall, candid tv, radio & newspaper interviews, tourist wanderings, and intimate moments with fiancée Taylor Grace, whose camcorder diary intertwines with professional footage. Between forgotten lyrics and celebrity cameos, Crockett confronts the state of America, Ai in music, and the music industry itself, revealing a vulnerable, defiant artist unafraid to speak truth while chasing greatness. Cast: Charley Crockett, Taylor Day Grace-Crockett, Joe David Walters, Simon Slater.

In addition to this Texas Premiere of his film, Charley performed at the SXSW Music Festival that same evening at Stubb’s. I really wanted to attend his performance to close out my festival experience for 2026 but unfortunately lost my energy for the late show.

Charley Crockett returns to the Waterloo Records Stage on Wednesday, April 8th here in Austin. Charley Crockett is back with “Age of the Ram,” the third and final installment of the Sagebrush Trilogy, co-produced by Shooter Jennings. Featuring 20 new recordings, Age of the Ram is the culmination of Charley’s incredible sonic exploration, spanning three albums, resulting in Charley’s most realized and compelling work to date.
