Nick Stoller (Neighbors, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) wrote the movie You’re Cordially Invited, and directed it. He has a long list of writing credits and has previously directed the film Bros). When I first read that Reese Witherspoon is starring in a film alongside Will Ferrell, I must admit at first, I questioned why she would do something like that. I could not imagine what that comedy would be like, as I am not a huge fan of all of Will Ferrell’s past comedy. Thankfully, the script does have some good comedic moments with the two leading actors and the actors who delivered the great scenes (aside from Reese) are the younger rising stars in comedy. Even if someone is not necessarily a fan of Will Ferrall’s comedy, I do suggest viewing the film to see the supporting cast of characters who will entertain you.
Witherspoon stars a Margot who lives/works in Los Angeles. When she learns her sister is getting married, she becomes the wedding planner for her. She books her sister’s wedding at a venue on an island that is nostalgic to them both since childhood. The wedding is accidentally double-booked the same weekend by an elder staff member after a widowed father, Jim (Will Ferrell) booked it for his daughter Jenni (Geraldine Viswanathan). He wants the perfect ceremony for Jenni who lost her mother when she was 6 years old. The comedy shows us a battle of wills between the families.
Synopsis: Two weddings are accidentally booked on the same day at the same venue, forcing the bridal parties to navigate tight quarters while trying to create the perfect celebration.
Among the supporting cast members (and character names) are Captain Barry (Fortune Feimster), Lesli (Jack McBrayer), Bobby Moynihan, Flora (Celia Weston), Masked Dancer Host (Wyatt Russell), Heather (Keyla Monterroso Mejia), Oliver (Stony Blyden), among others.
Keyla Monterroso Mejia is also part of the cast of One of Them Days that is in theaters now. She is very good in her performance there but is excellent in this Prime Video film as part of Jenni’s friends and wedding party. She has a few key scenes in the film and excels in them all, alongside major film actors. Keep and eye out for this rising star comedienne. It is hard to miss Keyla in these films. She is known for her work on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Abbott Elementary” TV series.
Rated R, You’re Cordially Invited, a Prime Video original movie, arrives on the streaming service on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
