It seems like this franchise has been around forever, with the first film released in 2000. Depending on how long someone has been watching films, they might agree with me that 25 years is quite a while. In this case, the fifth in the franchise was released in 2011. There has been a big gap and various film fans I spoke to were not so impressed with the last/5th one. I have a good feeling they have not given up and will want to see what happens to this generation of children and their families.
Synopsis: The newest chapter in New Line Cinema’s bloody successful franchise takes audiences back to the very beginning of Death’s twisted sense of justice— “Final Destination Bloodlines.” Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.
Some fans may want to view the prior ones before viewing this new release, but I found it to be complete without revisiting the prior films. There is enough in the script to inform the viewer of the history of the family and what has now come through another generation. Directed by Adam Stein & Zach Lipovsky from a screenplay/story by Guy Busick & Lori Evans Taylor, the writers did a very good job of placing me back in the 1960s when Iris (Brec Bassinger) was at the Sky View celebration with her beau for a celebration of the venue. We come to the modern day when her granddaughter, Stefani Reyes (Kaitlyn Santa Juana) has trouble sleeping, dreams and difficulties finishing her course studies at the university. Going home to family to find answers proves to be complicated and not well received.
I choose not to detail each situation that each family member goes through after Stefani returns from visiting her grandmother Iris (Gabrielle Rose). Although you may have seen the trailer, be aware that the film has so many more details for each scene to keep your attention and eyes looking forward to not miss a minute of it. I find the script and story very impressive to tie one situation to the next. Don’t forget to breathe in between scenes.
