Steven Spielberg’s new film, Disclosure Day, is a summer blockbuster that not only entertains, but gives the audience plenty to think about, both morally and thematically.  David Koepp’s script does its best to inform the audience about the characters and the themes over the lengthy run time, but I did not find it to be one of those films that you keep checking your watch to see how long you have been sitting through it all. With a master filmmaker like Spielberg, cast and crew, it moves the viewer in a different range of emotions while going from quiet scenes to manic action as the characters propel the story forward.

Daniel Kellner (Josh O’Connor) works for a company headed by Noah Scanlon (Colan Firth). He takes an action that he is tasked to do by leader Hugo Wakefield (Colman Domingo). Scanlon has abilities and tech to get Daniel’s girlfriend, Jane (Eve Hewson), to make Daniel give up and return the goods. Daniel sets out to have Jane and inform the world. Action!

Margaret Fairchild (Emily Blunt) is a Kansas City meteorologist suddenly has an experience one morning that she can’t explain to her boyfriend Jackson (Wyatt Russell). To not give too many spoilers, she can understand more people and languages. As seen in the trailer, while on the air, she begins speaking in “gibberish” – but suddenly connects with Daniel.

The performance of the leads and the supporting cast is excellent. While the key roles of four main characters are superb, Hewson and Russell stand out as they support Blunt and O’Connor. They should all be recognized for the challenge of delivering on playing roles with the complex themes in this script.

Hugo makes a point about what we are told by the powers that be. We are given some questions to ponder about learning more beyond what has been sanitized and served.

I highly recommend the film not only for entertainment purposes but how thought-provoking it can be. The film is PG‑13, and run time is 2 hours and 25 minutes.

It opens in theaters nationwide June 12, 2026.
