The Johnston High School Ex-Students Association will host the annual Johnston High School Vietnam Veterans Memorial Monument Ceremony on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 2-5 pm at the Johnston/Liberal Arts and Science Academy campus. The ceremony honors the fallen Johnston High School Vietnam War veterans from east Austin who had their lives cut short while in service to their country.
The monument honors 19 ex-students of Johnston High School who were Killed in Action (KIAs), 3 who died of other Vietnam War related injuries, and 84 who have died from Agent Orange or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Speakers will include Austin District 3 City Council Member Jose Velasquez, former Travis County Precinct 4 Commissioner Marcos Deleon, Travis County Precinct 4 Constable and ex-Johnston High School alumnus George Morales, and veteran and Johnston High School Ex-Students Association Vice-President Kristen Gonzalez.
The event will be held on campus in the flagpole area where the monument is located at 1012 Arthur Stiles Rd. in Austin, and the cafeteria. The ceremony will begin at the Johnston Rams Legacy Hall in the school cafeteria located at the back of the school. The ceremony continues outside by the Johnston Veterans Memorial Monument located in front of the school. The event will conclude in the cafeteria with refreshments and fellowship.
