The new dramedy from filmmaker Rachel Suissa (Dangerous Liaisons, Mesrine: Public Enemy No. 1) Greek Mothers Never Die will make an interesting option to enjoy for Mother’s Day and beyond as it is now available On Demand starting May 9th. Suissa also stars in the film that features a multifaceted cast of talented actors, including Abby Miner (The Ritz, The Jurassic Games), Simon Rérolle (Survive, Dangerous Liaisons) and Carter Sirianni (Broken Vessels, Limerence).
SYNOPSIS: Ella‘s story begins in Greece, as the only child of Jack, an American singer-song writer and Despina, a Greek, zany, overprotective Gyros owner. Nick, Ella’s only friend, is a 10-year-old shy, nerdy-looking boy. Ella and Nick develop their friendship that turns into love but in 2010 the Greek economy collapses, Nick leaves Greece and Jack dies. Despina and Ella must move to America for their survival. Now Ella is a 27-year-old late-bloomer, with zero love life, dreaming of becoming a singer, but Despina pressures her to take over the Gyros. During their daily fight, Despina drops dead of a heart attack only to return as an intervening ghost, haunting Ella with unwanted advice and romantic guidance after Nick re-surfaces as a handsome doctor (and something of a playboy). In this supernatural heartwarming romantic comedy-drenched in Greek Drama – Ella will ultimately take control of her life, find the meaning of true love and learn how to deal with the passing of her mother.
This rom-com brims with Greek passion and family drama, with Despina overbearing and suffocating Ella from her dream to be a singer, not take over the family business. Despina constantly shows up unexpectedly, uninvited and embarrassing her, so how on Earth is she to marry a Greek man (or any man)? After one of their spats, Despina passes away, but still makes her presence known, causing Ella to doubt her sanity. Tired of hearing her mother’s advice, Ella proceeds to find her own way, trying out new things and learning from them – especially when a now grown-up Nick moves to town. The road is bumpy between them and although at times things are complicated, he remembers what he treasured long ago.
